The International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) is pleased to announce that we are seeking applications for our 2025 research grant. The mission of IFFGD is patient oriented. Our goal is to fund high-quality research.

Description

One grant award of $40,000 in direct costs is available for innovative research related to gastrointestinal disorders. For projects with total estimated costs greater than the amount of the award, additional sources of funds may be used to complete the project. All financial resources will be acknowledged in any report of the research.

Basis

We are seeking proposals for research that will ultimately lead to improvements in the understanding of gastrointestinal disorders, its pathophysiology, and the care of patients.

Eligibility

To be eligible, investigators must have completed an MD or PhD degree (or their equivalent) that was received not more than ten years prior to application, have a record of relevant research accomplishment, and be currently active in investigating basic or clinical aspects of gastrointestinal illness within the IFFGD portfolio. Successful applicants must agree to acknowledge IFFGD support in any publications that result from the research, and to submit a final report to IFFGD within 18 months of initial receipt of funding (NIH form PHS 2590 or equivalent format).

Review Process

A Selection Committee, independent of IFFGD staff, will review applications and rank them. In evaluating the merits of an application, the Selection Committee will consider its scientific merit, its significance to the field, and its feasibility (including availability of adequate resources, personnel and facilities). An investigational review committee (IRB) will review and approve all research before the funds are transferred to the applicant or institution applying.

Program emphasis will include, but not be limited to, issues relating to:

  • underlying mechanisms of symptom generation
  • symptom management
  • integrative physiological processes
  • therapeutic targets
  • new technology to help explain gastric function and relationship to human disease
  • neurobiology
  • quality of life
  • multi-disciplinary approaches
  • novel approaches to patient care

Allowable Budget Expenses

Only direct costs are allowed. Indirect costs are not allowed in these grants.

Application Process

The application period is now closed. The deadline for submitting applications was Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Applicants will be informed on Monday, March 10, 2025, of the status of their application, and the winner will be acknowledged at the annual IFFGD breakfast at DDW2025 in San Diego

Direct questions may be sent to the IFFGD Selection Committee by:

  • Via email about the grants or online submission instructions – iffgd@iffgd.org
