2009 IFFGD Research Award Recipient Emeran Mayer, MD

Dr. Emeran Mayer, IFFGD’s 2009 Research Award Winner for Senior Investigator in Basic Science, explains his journey through research and provides us with great insight on topics like mind-brain-body interactions, the neurobiology of chronic functional pain syndromes, interoceptive mechanisms in food intake and gut inflammation, and advanced imaging techniques in brain-gut axis studies.

Dr. Mayer’s research interests have included basic, translational and clinical aspects of brain gut interactions.  Recently Dr. Mayer has looked primary at sensory mechanisms using advanced functional imaging techniques in humans and in animals.
