505- Medications for the Treatment of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

What medicines are used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease?

Gastroesophageal refers to the stomach and the esophagus. Reflux refers to the back-flow of acidic or non-acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. GERD is characterized by symptoms, with or without tissue damage, that result from repeated or prolonged exposure of the lining of the esophagus to acidic or non-acidic contents from the stomach

Anti-reflux medications are highly effective and serve as an important foundation for the treatment of GERD. Three common medications for the treatment of GERD are H2 Blockers, Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), Potassium competitive acid blockers (PCABs) and Promotility agents.
