The International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) is pleased to announce that we are seeking applications/nominations for our 2025 Junior Academician Travel Awards.

Description

Fifteen (15) travel awards of up to $2,000 each are available for young clinicians and researchers focused on research in the area of gastrointestinal disorders.

Basis

These travel awards recognize and support young investigators who have a record of research interest and accomplishment in neurogastroenterology and, especially, in the basic mechanisms or clinical aspects of functional gastrointestinal (GI) and motility disorders. They are intended to encourage the participation of clinicians and scientists in scientific meetings to help enhance their career growth. These opportunities will allow for networking with other clinicians and scientists to further develop research programs around the world. Each award consists of up to $2,000 to cover expenses related to travel and registration.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the applicant must have completed their highest level of training no more than seven years prior to application. They should also have demonstrated a record of accomplishment, and be currently active in investigating basic, translational, or clinical aspects of functional GI or motility disorders, or other neurogastroenterology topics.

Awards will be presented to all those who serve the IFFGD patient community. This includes gastroenterologists (MD), basic science researchers (PhD), Advanced Care Providers (PA and FNP) and other healthcare professionals (dietitians, psychologists, physical therapists, etc.). There will also be awards for trainees (medical students and fellows), those from underrepresented communities and smaller GI programs. This includes people of color and those who work at institutions that do not have internationally recognized programs in the IFFGD portfolio. This will include smaller Functional GI and Motility labs and rare GI disorders (even if the institution as a whole has a large GI program).

Allowable Budget Expenses

Travel-related expenses include registration, transportation, lodging, and food and beverage. IFFGD is a registered nonprofit; therefore, all travel-related expenses must be fiscally reasonable, necessary, and related to the meeting for which they are expensed.

  • Registration: IFFGD will reimburse any registration fees incurred by the awardee to attend the meeting.
  • Transportation: This includes but is not limited to air, rail, bus, and car. Premium Coach, Business Class and First-Class air fares will not be reimbursed unless approved beforehand by IFFGD. Baggage check fees and travel-related parking are reimbursable.
  • Accommodation: IFFGD will pay for all associated room fees and taxes but is not responsible for any direct room charges unless approved previously by the President of IFFGD.
  • Food and beverage: IFFGD will reimburse reasonable costs of meals during the meeting. Only food and beverages consumed by the awardee will be reimbursed (one entrée/beverage per meal).

IFFGD will only reimburse travel related expenses upon receipt of documentation of the expense (purchase receipts or other verifiable documentation). All receipts should be scanned/attached and submitted within two (2) weeks of the meeting conclusion.

Application Process

The application period is now closed. The deadline for submitting applications was Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Applicants will be informed on Monday, March 10, 2025, of the status of their application, and the winner will be acknowledged at the annual IFFGD breakfast at DDW2025 in San Diego
