Kristi’s Personal Story: Gastroparesis

I had chronic gastroparesis for 22 years, been on every pharmaceutical drug which gave me side effects, been into hospital multiple times for stomach dilation and botox injected internally into my stomach which was not covered by health insurance.

I was nauseous 24/7, would change my clothes up to 10 times during the day because it felt like I was wearing a tight band around my torso, changing my clothes was obviously psychological because it didn’t make any difference what I was wearing. I had thumping pain in my stomach, would always throw up, could not eat a lot of types of food or I would throw up and I went for 4 months at a time without eating a few times, only drank juice because every time I ate I would throw up.

During these times I had to stop driving because my brain was not functioning from being weak and not eating. I did stupid things such as taking a hot quiche out of the oven I made for my partner with no oven mits on, I went to get in the car and forgot to bend to sit down and hit my head on the roof of the car, I nearly hit a parked car on the side of the road because I just wasn’t paying attention to stay in the middle of the road. Daily I found it difficult to do simple things such as bending over to pick something up because it would hurt so much and I would throw up bending my stomach.

After a 2 year episode the gastroenterologist suggested removing my stomach, which could cause dumping syndrome and other bowel problems, or implanting a stomach pace maker which would cost me $30,000 AUD because it was considered experimental surgery in Australia and not covered by Medicare or private health insurance, I did not have $30,000 and would have had to save for a long time to get that kind of money together. I got a second and third opinion from different gastroenterologists and decided against both of these invasive surgeries.

That experience taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of understanding what coverage truly means—whether for health or the things we rely on every day. Medical costs can rise unexpectedly, just as car repairs or accidents can come out of nowhere. Having the right policy can make all the difference when life takes an unexpected turn, and insurance comparison made simple allows people to see clearly what they’re paying for and what they’re protected against. In both health and auto matters, being informed isn’t just practical—it’s empowering.

Just as medical emergencies can arise without warning, so too can car troubles, leaving us stranded or facing costly repairs. Maintaining a reliable vehicle and having access to dependable service is essential for both safety and peace of mind. Regular check-ups, timely maintenance, and understanding the coverage provided by warranties or insurance policies help ensure that your car continues to function smoothly, even when life throws you a curveball.

The lessons learned from navigating health challenges translate directly into how we care for our vehicles. From unexpected engine problems to routine maintenance needs, having trusted support can make all the difference. Skilled mechanics provide not only repair services but also guidance to keep your car running efficiently and safely. For those who rely on diesel vehicles or need specialized expertise, G&R Diesel offers comprehensive services that help ensure reliability and performance under all conditions. This approach reinforces the broader principle that preparation and informed decision-making, whether for health or automotive care, protect against unforeseen complications and give you the freedom to focus on life rather than emergencies.

Finally, an EeSystem came to Perth, I went into the EeSystem and slept there overnight, I woke up with no symptoms and haven’t had any since April 2nd 2023 and I believe it has cured my gastroparesis. I urge anyone who has gastroparesis to go into an EeSystem as it’s been life changing for me.
