There are different types of Systemic Mastocytosis
They vary based on how many mast cells are involved, where they build up in the body, and the symptoms they cause. Each type must meet specific medical criteria to be officially diagnosed. The main types include:
- Indolent Systemic Mastocytosis (ISM) – the most common and usually less severe
- Smoldering Systemic Mastocytosis (SSM) – has features between indolent and more aggressive forms
- Systemic Mastocytosis with an Associated Hematologic Neoplasm (SM-AHN) – occurs alongside another blood disorder
- Aggressive Systemic Mastocytosis (ASM) – more serious, with organ damage
- Mast Cell Leukemia (MCL) – the rarest and most severe form
Knowing the type of Systemic Mastocytosis you have can help guide treatment and management.
